After the death of Dario Cecconi at the Tandragee 100 (Northern Ireland) in April 2017, the Italian Motorcycling Federation decided to refuse licenses for transalpine riders wanting to participate in “road races”.

In this it follows the example of the Spanish Federation which, after the death of Santiago Herrero at the 1970 Tourist Trophy (this race then counted for the World Championship), decided to refuse licenses for this type of race.

Every year, road races generate their share of deaths and, every year, the question arises as to whether this zone of freedom and free will should be left, or whether it should be banned...

The Italian Federation has therefore just taken sides, while, for the moment, France still leaves room for freedom.

Note that such a measure in no way prevents pilots from going there, since you can take your license in the country of your choice...
