Sometimes you come very close to qualifying and just miss it, but that rarely happens twice in the same day. However, this is the misfortune that Danilo Petrucci experienced this Saturday at Sepang.

At the end of the first three free practice sessions, you had to be among the first twelve to be transferred directly to Q2. Petrucci ranked thirteenth, 0.118 behind twelfth alex rins.

Danilo therefore participated in Q1 with the hope of being among the two fastest, which was almost the case. He failed in third position, 0.213 behind the fastest Alex Rins, and 0.164 behind second. Espargaro Pol.

Petrucci will therefore start this Sunday from the fifth row of the starting grid, alongside his teammate Scott Redding and Alvaro Bautista, a 100% Ducati line. It's far from ideal, but not hopeless. Petrux has already qualified twice this year in thirteenth position, in Austin and Jerez, which did not prevent him from finishing eighth in Texas and seventh in Spain.

To Danilo Petrucci, who are " I can't say I'm happy but honestly the feeling isn't bad, even if we may have only reached a good level at the end of FP4.

“I missed the Q2 qualifying session twice by a tenth today: it could have gone better but I think I have a good pace so that I can stay in the top 10 tomorrow even in the dry. »
