By qualifying on the second row of this Malaysian Grand Prix, just 4 hundredths behind his teammate and 3 tenths behind polesitter Dani Pedrosa, Maverick Vinales maintains all his chances for Sunday's race, if it takes place in the dry.
He is perfectly aware of this and is even particularly confident in relying on his strong point which is his braking.
Maverick Vinales : “It was very hard! But anyway, I feel good because in the morning the gap between the first and us was really big, but we improved the bike a lot in the afternoon, and that's why I feel very good and confident for tomorrow. I still feel like I could have gone a lot faster than the time I did in qualifying, so I feel good. I feel good on the bike and that's something very important. Today's qualifying was very close, all drivers' times were very close to each other. We are 0.3s from the first and I am happy. In FP3 I didn't feel so good, but then we made some changes to the bike in FP4 and I felt good again. I think that for tomorrow we still have room for improvement and that is very important. I feel really good and I think I have a clear idea on which tire I will use for the race. I'm especially happy because there were a lot of races where we didn't make good progress over the weekend, but here we made great progress. We have to be very smart for tomorrow's race, first and foremost when choosing the tires. We must choose the best option for our motorcycle. In the end I think we have the package, I'm good under braking and I feel strong compared to the other drivers, so let's see if we can do the job tomorrow. »
