Marc VDS Racing team drivers Tony Arbolino and Filip Salac took part in a day of testing at the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain. A positive day for the Italian, who already aspires to the best for the future, but less encouraging for his neighbor in the garage...
As well as working to find areas to improve on over the first ten rounds of the season, one of the key objectives of the Marc VDS Racing team, like the others that make up the Moto2 grid, was to gain experience with Pirelli tires. What was done last week, on the Aragon track which will also return to the Moto2 calendar next month.
Tests which took place in significant heat conditions, giving pilots the opportunity to store as much information as possible to learn how to better manage the degradation phenomenon.
If Tony Arbolino took full advantage of this chance, completing a total of 87 laps, Filip Salac was quickly slowed down in his tracks. A premature fall at turn 9 prevented him from completing more than two laps during the day. A huge disappointment for the one who was already deprived of the Dutch and German meetings.
“This test did not go as we hoped and unfortunately this looks like the story of the last few weeks, confides n°12. Today was very important for me after missing so much track time at Assen and Sachsenring.
However, on my third lap, I crashed. We are currently investigating what happened, He continues. Now all we can do is try to put this behind us as quickly as possible. The bad luck continues, but we will continue to fight and work to improve the situation. »
On the other side of the garage, it's party time. Tony Arbolino had a pleasing day, and can already see himself fighting for the front at the next round of the season in Austria, thanks to the information gathered in Spain.
With his team, the Italian worked to maintain a fast pace with worn tires. A factor which is often lacking at the end of the race.
“I am very happy with this day. We were able to try things that we don't have time to properly evaluate during a race weekend, he comments in turn. I'm happy with my lap times, but what I like more than anything is my pace. Being fast and consistent over the longest distance was the main goal of the test and we achieved that.
I felt fast and really comfortable with the bike. The changes we made gave us the feeling we were hoping for. This test gives me a boost going to Austria next week and I feel like our time to shine” concludes Tony Arbolino.
