His AGR team having suddenly stopped the Grands Prix during the season after the departure of his patron Karlos Arguiñano, Maria Herrera found herself very deprived, but nonetheless kept her spirits up. She believes in herself, as she just explained in this interview with Marca, and simply asks to be given a chance.

Jaime Martin interviewed Maria in Madrid for Marca.

« I have confidence in myself, she explained to him. It hurts me not to be able to finish the season. But that doesn't bother me. »

Was it predictable that something like this would happen?

" No. I was hoping to finish the season and say goodbye to the team. What didn't cross my mind was that it was going to end before the end of the season. »

Everything looked good. What went wrong?

“It was an inexperienced team in Moto3. They predicted the results in advance. We haven't even done any testing. »

How much guilt do you assume?

" I gave everything. When the bike was working well I was in the top 10. I think I was very honest with them. This year I rode better than ever. And besides, I was physically strong like never before. So, seeing all this, I think I am not responsible for what happened. »

Is it your first choice to stay in the Moto3 World Championship?

“We are fighting to the death to continue in Moto3. It's very unfair to not have continuity that any driver can have right now. I think I deserve a two-year contract to prove my worth.

Are you not considering the possibility of moving up to World Superbike?

" No, not for the moment. I am focused on the Moto3 World Championship. If we cannot, we will look at other options. »

After what happened, do you still have the dream of racing in MotoGP?

“As a rider, my dream is to join MotoGP. Many people throw stones in my path. I didn't think it would be so difficult when I won the Spanish championship. I came strong in the World Championship. I didn't think they were going to put up so many obstacles. However, I will fight until the end. »
