Among the flagship French teams which shine brilliantly on the international sporting scene, there is of course the essential troop of warriors from Tech3 led by General Poncharal. But there are also the GMT94 commandos supervised by the stainless Christophe Guyot. They took the world crown in Endurance at the end of the 8 hours of Suzuka with the added element that sets hearts racing. Because, at the same time, it is a French pilot who is put back in the spotlight. A Mike Di Meglio titled in Grand Prix in 125cc and which returns to the light.

The Yamaha GMT94 won the motorcycling endurance world championship (EWC) on Sunday, at the end of the 8 Hours of Suzuka (Japan), the fifth and final round of the 2016-17 season won by its Yamaha Factory Racing Team. Second in the general classification before this last race, only one point behind the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team, defending champion, the Yamaha scored 94, driven by the Spaniard David Checa, Italian Niccolò Canepa and French Mike Di Meglio finished eleventh in the Suzuka 8 Hours, compared to eighteenth place for the Suzuki.

To Mike Di Meglio, it is a righteous return to the light. This 2017 season was synonymous for the driver born on January 17, 1988 with victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (France) and the 8 Hours of Oschersleben (Germany). A journey which therefore ended with a world crown. From 2014 to 2016, he had the status of a MotoGP rider, notably doing tests for Aprilia, a role which he still continues on occasion.

From 2009 to 2013, he evolved without much success first in 250cc then in Moto2. He achieved glory in 2008 with a consecration in the 125cc World Championship. This after four successes in France, Spain, Germany and Australia. His first titles of glory date back to 2001, the year he won the 50cc Conti Cup, then in 2002 where he won the Prix de l'Avenir and won the French Open 125cc championship. It was in 2003 that he made his Grand Prix debut and his first achievement took place in 2005 in Türkiye.

Here he is again among the tenors of the track and the essentials of French motorcycle history. A list that just needs to grow even more in 2018…
