During the first free practice session, Pol impressed greatly by setting the second fastest time, 0.136 behind leader Valentino Rossi, leaving behind Maverick Vinales, Marc Marquez and Jorge Lorenzo. It started well, but he confirmed the afternoon magnificently by setting the best time in 1'32.769, faster than the lap record established in the race last year by Jorge Lorenzo in 1'33.273.

It was not an isolated fast lap because the driver Monster Yamaha Tech3 posted two other laps in 1'33.373 and 1'33.436. He has already practically equaled his best time from last year which was 1'33.222 in qualifying.

“It's a great feeling to end the day in first position, even though it's just the start of the weekend and with the plans we have for tomorrow we hope to continue progressing, rejoiced Pol.

“Today the bike felt really good and I felt very comfortable with it on the Misano circuit. Also, the tires that Michelin brought here allowed me to ride my Yamaha in a way that suits me better. The rear hard tire has plenty of grip and good braking performance. The final result is a small trophy but the important work starts tomorrow, so tonight we will check some data to improve a little because there is not much gap with the other drivers.

“Another positive point from today is that my physical condition after the bad crash at Silverstone does not affect my driving on the track. Therefore, I am looking forward to getting back on the Yamaha and will do my absolute best to secure a strong grid position for Sunday's race. »
