After his overwhelming victory at the British Grand Prix last Sunday, Maverick is now one of the favorites. Not only is he in the group of the first four of the Championship, after having beaten Dani Pedrosa following his English triumph, but he achieved an excellent qualification this Saturday which allows him to appear on the front row alongside Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi .
Vinales progressed throughout the weekend, starting from afar with only tenth position at the end of the first day of free practice. He burst out of his box like hell in qualifying to set the third time, 0.513 behind Lorenzo and 0.165 behind Rossi, but 0.062 ahead of Marc Marquez.
Asked about his strategy for qualifying, Maverick replied “ I simply tried to do the best lap. It went well. It was incredible. I was on the edge everywhere. I feel really good on the bike. Now I have a good feeling with the bike and I feel everything. Honestly, I did more than I could today. Being on the first row is very important because it is difficult to overtake on this track. The day was not easy because we always have difficulties when the temperature is high. I thank my team who did a good job. »
After your first MotoGP victory at Silverstone last weekend, where do you stand now?
“We still need to improve certain things tomorrow. We are missing a little something to be able to express our full potential. This will allow me to increase my pace, which is the most important element for the race. I haven't made my tire choice yet, but I think we're ready for battle ».
