A little over a month ago, we shared with you what was then just a rumor from the paddock concerning the stopping of the Estella Galicia 0,0 team in the Moto3 world championship.

This departure was confirmed later and this article also allowed us to address the genesis of the Monlau Competición team and the role that played in it Emilio Alzamora.

Today, we regret the absence of this team in 2021 and pay tribute to them by saluting the very good work carried out which made it possible to highlight drivers such as Álex Márquez, Álex Rins, Miguel Oliveira, Jorge Navarro, Arón Canet, Enea Bastianini or Fabio Quartararo, to only cite a few.

Formed since 1997, and under the direction of former world champion Emilio Alzamora, the Monlau Competición team arrived in Grands Prix in 2012, during the transition from 125cc to Moto3. The Spanish team then lines up Alex Marquez (#12), Miguel Oliveira (#44) and Alex Rins (#42) on Suter Honda MMX3s. At the time, we were allowed to race three motorcycles…
Alex Rins finished the season in fifth position and Miguel Oliveira in eighth place while Alex Marquez finished 20th after half a season in the World Cup while he focused mainly on obtaining the CEV title.

2013 saw a change of motorcycles in favor of KTMs and a reduction to two machines for Alex Rins and Alex Marquez who finished second and fourth respectively in the championship, behind a certain Maverick Vinales.

Monlau Competición changed chassis again in 2014 to use Honda NSF 250 R.
The two pilots are maintained and Alex Marquez wins the title by a whisker Jack Miller whileAlex Rins finished fourth in the championship. It will be the best year for the Spanish structure.

In 2015, Jorge Navarro (# 9) and Fabio Quartararo (#20) arrived, finishing 7th and 10th respectively in a championship won by Danny Kent. We remember some difficult moments, particularly in Misano…

2016 sees Aron Canet (#44) replace the French. Jorge Navarro finished 3rd in a championship won by Brad Binder. Arón Canet is 15th.

In 2017, Aron Canet rest, Enea Bastianini (#33) arrives. 3rd and 6th behind Joan Mir, the Spaniard and the Italian are having a great championship.

Alonso lopez (#72) joined Arón Canet in 2018 while Jeremy Alcoba made three wildcards at the end of the season.
23rd and 6th, the two Spaniards finished far from Jorge Martin for the title.

Sergio Garcia (#11) is established in 2019 alongsideAlonso lopez while the Japanese Ryusei Yamanaka lines up 4 times as wildcard. The most difficult season for the Spanish team which only obtained 15th and 17th places in the championship despite the victory of Sergio Garcia during the last race in Valencia.

Finally, 2020 sees the formalization of Ryusei Yamanaka (#6) alongside Sergio Garcia, but, with the 24th and 9th final positions, the recipe will not give the expected result and the main sponsor will lower the curtain on the Grand Prix adventure.

The Monlau Competición team will be present in 2021 in the FIM CEV and ETC championship.
