The question that arises at the start of this third Moto2 free practice session is whether Alex Rins will be able to defend his chances in the championship. Insignificant in FP1, he suffered a good fall yesterday in FP2, and although he does not suffer from any fracture, he admits that the pain remains violent.

Here are reference times:
Motegi Moto2 | 2015 | 2016 |
FP1 | 1'51.556 Tom Lüthi | 1'51.816 Takaaki Nakagami |
FP2 | 1'51.158 Johann Zarco | 1'50.625 Tom Lüthi |
FP3 | 1'50.909 Alex Rins | |
QP | 1'50.339 Johann Zarco
WU (wet) | 2'03.645 Alex Rins
All time lap record | 1'50.339 Johann Zarco
Running (wet) | Zarco, Folger, Cortese
The conditions are always excellent and the session begins under the influence of Tom Luthi in 1'51.117, ahead Alex Marquez, definitely in great progress, and Johann zarco.
Lüthi pushed hard and improved to 1'50.591, best time of the weekend. Lowes and Marquez made a minor mistake and the first run ended with yet another improvement from the Garage Plus Interwetten team, in 1'50.373, the best time of the weekend.
Behind, Morbidelli, Zarco, Folger, Marquez, Baldassarri, Syahrin, Nakagami, A. Pons and Schrotter occupy the Top 10.
The second run does not bring much change, which allows us to see, among other things, that Alex Rins is then 28th, 2,5 seconds from the lead. The team informs that the shoulder ligaments are affected.
Combined timing update…

The final packaging…does not take place! Indeed, to protect against the rapid drop in temperatures at the end of the sessions, the teams fitted new tires for the second run.
If you're going to crash, sliding off into pit lane entry is as efficient as it gets… @simonecorsi 👌#JapaneseGP https://t.co/eV2FD1LqNK
