Last week the Malaysian oil company Petronas has made an unexpected turnaround by announcing that it will no longer sponsor Moto2 rider Hafizh Syahrin for next season.
This one must indeed ride under the colors Petronas Sprinta Racing in Moto2 (see here), a team formed with the collaboration of Petronas and Sepang International Circuit (SO).
Instead, the 23-year-old Selangor rider (who, incidentally, just got married) will ride exclusively for the team SIC Racing in Moto 2 category.
For the upcoming season, Petronas will focus on developing new talent through its grassroots program in the Petronas AAM Malaysian Cub Prix, but will remain in the Moto3 World Championship, through Petronas Sprinta Racing, as a team partner. SIC (Sepang International Circuit) Moto3 who aligns Adam Norrodin et Ayumu Sasaki.
“Hafizh and Petronas have enjoyed nine fantastic racing seasons in the Malaysian Cub Awards Championship, Asian Road Racing Championship, Spanish National Championship and Moto2”, states the press release.
“Petronas is proud of Hafizh’s achievements and wishes him the best for his future.
“Petronas would also like to express its gratitude and appreciation to Raceline Malaysia, who played a vital role in transforming Hafizh into what it is today, a Malaysian pride in the international motorcycle racing arena. »
“Going forward, Petronas will focus its resources on developing new talent through its existing program, the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship, and through its collaboration with SIC in Moto3 through the Petronas Sprinta Racing Team. »
As a result, the project of arriving in MotoGP was hoped for for a while (see here) does not seem any closer to coming to fruition…
