British rider Jake Dixon will join the Ángel Nieto team in their return to Moto2 in 2019. Dixon, who is currently fighting for the British Superbike title, will make his debut as a World Championship rider aboard a KTM.

Dixon is currently second in the BSB standings with just two rounds remaining. In 2017, he earned two wins during the season and became the youngest driver to qualify for the Showdown, finishing sixth overall. Since the start of the season he has three wins to his name, including a double at Oulton Park last time out to kick off this year's Showdown, putting him just 31 points behind the leader, with five races remaining. Dixon's full-time Moto2 debut in Qatar in 2019 will not be his first Grand Prix, having previously appeared as a wildcard at Silverstone in 2017.

Jake dixon : “I want to thank Jorge Martínez “Aspar” and the Ángel Nieto team for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. It's a team with a lot of experience and several world titles behind it, and I'm looking forward to being part of a new project with the Ángel Nieto and KTM team. The first season will be about gathering as much information as possible, learning as much as possible, and fighting for the championship afterward. I would also like to thank Kawasaki, my team for two seasons, for everything they have done for me, as well as everyone who allowed me to make the move to the Moto2 World Championship. »

Jorge Martínez “Aspar” : “We are very happy to welcome Jake Dixon to the Grand Prix paddock and the Ángel Nieto team family. He is a very promising driver because he is still young, but he has already achieved excellent results in his country. This is a great signing for our return to Moto2, and together with KTM we hope to continue growing together in 2019.”
