In terms of times, there is not much to say about this 3rd and final day of pre-season Moto2 testing sessions in Jerez, since the track surface was never dry.
For the historical aspect, we will note that Luca Marini set the first benchmark of this new era by setting the best time of the 3 days, in 1'41.524,
As a reminder, the official circuit record, achieved with a Moto2 with a Honda engine, belongs to the same driver since the last Grand Prix, in 1'41.890.
The time achieved last year by Alex Marquez in 1'40.926 on the handlebars of his Kalex, during tests on the Andalusian circuit in mid-February (free engines) therefore seems, with around ten more horses and more sophisticated Magneti Marelli electronics, within firing range of the Moto2 engines Triumph.
To do this, it will still be necessary to refine the electronics and the development of the chassis, the latter area benefiting from 9 years of experience with regard to the now old Moto2s with Honda engines.
Still, the drivers are generally delighted with their new mount which not only has 10 more horses (140 out of the box) but a torque of 81 Nm at 11000 rpm compared to around 65 Nm between 12500 and 13000 rpm for those with Honda engines.
This significant torque is, however, the cause of some highsides which took some drivers by surprise: you'll have to get used to it!
Almost for the record, Steven Odendaal (NTS RW Racing GP) was the fastest as the track began to dry in the last half hour of the 2nd session, ahead Dominique Aegerter (MV Agusta Forward Racing).
