The 2018 season was not the most flamboyant for a Alex Marquez from which we hoped for much more. We expected to see him fight for the Moto2 title, which was not the case. Ultimately, he reached the podium six times and finished the season without having won a single victory. In the championship standings, he managed to climb to fourth position, just like in 2017.

It has now been four years sinceAlex Marquez rides a Kalex in Moto2 in the Marc VDS team. Enough to expect a burst of pride, an ounce of energy, of determination on the part of the Cervera driver, to win his second Champion star. But in 2018, the victory train passed, leaving the 22-year-old driver alone at the dock, with his doubts and his lack of maturity. This is also what cost him the fact of being knighted, with a view to joining the premier category in 2019. Perhaps a blessing in disguise in the end..

As reported by Tutomotoriweb, the driver of the Marc VDS team, interviewed by Marca, did not hide his ambitions for the 2019 season: “After four years in Moto2, the goal is to win the championship. It's been my dream since I left Moto3 to go to Moto2. I am fighting for this and with the same determination that has been mine since my first season. »

In 2019, Moto2 riders' bikes will be equipped with a Triumph engine. The first tests carried out were satisfactory, estimated Alex Marquez even if it is still a little early to judge: “I had to change my riding style a little but my first impression so far is very good. I think this new engine can only bring us benefits. »

What about his ambition to take the plunge into the premier category in 2020? : “For the moment, I have a contract in Moto2, which one I will have in the future, I don’t know. The 2019 season will be very important. Making the jump to MotoGP is a goal. It is the dream of every driver participating in the World Championship. If things go well, we will surely have the opportunity to make this jump. It's entirely up to me." he confides.

When asked if the presence of Luca Marini, brother of Valentino Rossi, in the Moto2 Championship, represents additional motivation, it indicates: “For me, he’s a rival like any other. I consider him the same as other drivers. At the end of the day, we all want the same thing, to win. There will probably be some great battles in 2019, just as there were in 2018. It adds spice and that’s also why our sport is so beautiful.”
