Manuel Gonzalez still holds a 50-point lead over Izan Guevara heading into Assen for the 10th round of the 2026 Moto2 season. But the competition is heating up. David Alonso, increasingly comfortable in the Aspar team, is in great form and is gradually establishing himself as one of the favorites in each race. Filip Salac is also one to watch, having secured podium finishes in the last two rounds.
Having secured pole position in the Czech Republic, David Alonso dominated the Moto2 practice session at Assen, a week after the Czech Grand Prix. He finished the day just nine thousandths of a second ahead of Manuel Gonzalez, while the top 21 riders behind him were separated by less than a second.
Tony Arbolino completed the top three, ahead of Senna Agius and Dani Holgado, who rounded out the top five. Filip Salac finished ninth for the day, so all the current favorites secured their places in the top 14, guaranteeing direct entry to Q2. As a reminder, Belgian rider Barry Baltus is not participating in the Moto2 Dutch Grand Prix, still injured after a crash last week in Free Practice. At the start of this weekend, however, his team announced that he had undergone successful surgery on his left shoulder.
