Moto2 Australia Qualifying: Fermin Aldeguer confirms his domination

Fermin Aldeguer, after dominating the three test rounds at Phillip Island, also took pole position for the Australian Grand Prix, the 16th stage of the Moto2 category. The SpeedUp driver set the fastest lap with a time of 1'31.888, the only driver to break the 32-minute "wall". This is the third pole for him in the MotoGP intermediate class. The first row is completed with Aron Canet (team Pons) and the other bike of Luca Boscoscuro of Alonso Lopez, pushed back to 0.342s and 0.684s respectively.

Fourth beat and second line for Joe Roberts (Italtrans), which will have the championship leader at its side Peter Acosta (Red Bull Ajo) and Jake dixon (Aspar). Sergio Garcia (Pons) is seventh, ahead Tony Arbolino (Marc VDS), who will therefore start from the third row with Darryn Binder (Intact GP).

« I am very happy“, declares Aldeguer, who was also on pole last year. “ The ideal lap time this morning was 1:31.9. When I saw that I had even achieved a 1:31.8 in qualifying, I still continued to attack!“. After a few drops of rain fell during Moto3 qualifying, the weather calmed down for Moto2. However, the ocean wind blew across the small island and played a role. The pilots had to take this into account.

The favorite for the world title Peter Acosta, played no role at the top of Q2. The Spaniard qualified fifth behind Joe Roberts. Acosta was 0,745 seconds behind Aldeguer. Jake dixon completes the second row of the grid. The third line positions were secured by Sergio Garcia, Tony Arbolino and the IntactGP driver Darryn Binder.  At the end of the qualifications, Sam Lowes caused yellow flags with a fall.
