Fabulous, Fantastic, Fantic! This could be the slogan to describe the performance of Celestine Vietti during the Austrian Grand Prix…

On Sunday, the 21-year-old Italian driver took a difficult victory but his race was perfect; he managed the tires without missing a single corner and got back on the leader second after second, leading the Fantic Racing team to its historic first victory in the Moto2 World Championship.

This is not the first time that the name of Fantic, evoking memories among the oldest among us, resonates in Grand Prix, the Italian firm having made an attempt in 250cc with Arnaud Vincent in 2005. The machine was then equipped with a 250 V2 2-stroke engine based on Yamaha and a chassis manufactured by Suter.

Today only the acquired name of this Italian brand remains and, like 90% of the field, it is a Kalex with a Triumph engine, even if we may regret it. When will Terrot be in Moto2?

But that is not the subject, and the team, in this case the VR46, worked intensely and deserved this victory, wanted and sought after. For its first year of existence under this name, it is a demonstration of force which will arouse enthusiasm for the next race in Barcelona, on the Montmelo circuit.

8th in FP1, 5th in FP2 and 5th in FP3, Celestino Vietti finally ranked 3rd on the starting grid, before making the race we know, even going up and then overtaking the championship leader, Peter Acosta.

Great work during a well-constructed weekend, which ends with his 6th victory in GP, including 4 in Moto2.

Celestino Vietti: “When I crossed the finish line, I thought… FINALLY! I am really delighted with this result. We deserve it. After some bad luck in the last few races, we finally reached the top step of the podium. I am moved. Now we have to continue like this. I especially thank my team who continue to work hard every weekend. »

With this result, Celestine Vietti is 8th in the championship with 80 points, 96 units behind Pedro Acosta.
