This 2019 Moto2 season opens a new chapter in the history of the category with, in particular, the new engine Triumph. Some drivers also take advantage of this opportunity to show themselves in a new dimension. We thus had a Baldassarri double winner in the first two races, a momentum that came to a screeching halt in Austin with a retirement. Suddenly, attention is focused on another driver who has not yet won, but who shows that success cannot be long in coming: Marcel Schrötter.

A revelation which relieves Germany which does not shine with a squad as numerous as it is talented in the Grand Prix. Marcel Schrötter has already delivered consistent performances over the past season. Often, the Kalex driver narrowly missed the podium, finishing almost every race in the top 10. This year, the German was able to progress further. After three events he claims two podiums, a top 5 and two pole positions. He always started from the front row.

In Austin, Schrötter finished second last weekend with the best result of his Grand Prix career. This after 160 departures. However, the first victory is still missing. In Texas, his teammate Tom Luthi outplayed him. But given his performance curve, it's only a matter of time before he takes the top step of the podium.

« I already have a few races behind me and it will be time to fight for victories”, said the 26-year-old driver, who is now entering his third year with German team Intact. In 2018, he had his best season there so far. Schrötter Explain : " everything happened the year before: I had the team I needed and I had the sayo”.

Previously, he changed teams or bikes almost every year or discovered new bikes.who did not have the potential“, he said. “ It's been a little difficult, but I've felt really good since joining Intact. The first year we saw the potential, but we struggled in some races. We returned with Kalex last year. This bike works pretty well everywhere. I knew I had everything to win a race”.

This has not changed with the switch from Honda to Triumph engines this season, quite the contrary. “ The Triumph engine put me at ease straight away, even though I hadn't been very fast during testing, but it's pretty much the same every year. As soon as we arrived in Qatar, I was quick”, said Schrötter.

Besides the equipment, there is also the atmosphere within the team: “ I feel good with everything I have and I am happy. The material and environment obviously fit well and I get along well with Lüthi. With all his experience, he could teach me a lot. We all believe in each other and the atmosphere in the team is great. It’s nice to see that it can also succeed”.

Marcel Schrötter is second in the championship three points behind Baldassarri and two units ahead of his Swiss teammate.
