From the Spanish GP in Jerez, the category Moto2 will have two new Pirelli rear tires: the supersoft SCX, available in some Grands Prix this year, and a new standard soft.
- During the Spanish Grand Prix, first European round of the World Championship, Pirelli will introduce important innovations regarding the rear tires for the drivers of the class Moto2™. Starting at Jerez, and for a few other grands prix this year, a new supersoft compound, the SCX extension, will be awarded. In addition, from the Spanish GP, the soft development solution of the D0640 specification becomes the new soft standard SC0.
- The new SCX rear in supersoft rubber is an even softer option than the SC0, which until now was the softest compound available to Moto2™ riders. This solution made its debut in 2019 in the FIM Superbike World Championship where it has since become the most popular and widely used rear. Moto2™ riders had the opportunity to officially test it for the first time during the tests held in February in Jerez. On that occasion, Aron Canet (Kalex) was the fastest in the tests, completing in 1'39.552 and improving by more than a second the previous all-time lap record (1'40.640) he set in 2023. During the season, the SCX supersoft will be available as an alternative or in addition to the SC1 medium for all GPs held on circuits that, due to the characteristics of the asphalt or the temperatures, allow its use.
– From the Spanish GP as well, the soft development solution in specification D0640, immediately appreciated by Moto2™ riders and used successfully in 2024 during the two rounds held at Misano and the grand finale in Barcelona (as well as during certain WorldSBK rounds), becomes the new SC0 rear standardThis step is an integral part of Pirelli's development program, which involves the introduction of development solutions to complement these standard options during the season. If, as is the case here, the development option demonstrates better performance than the standard option in different races and contexts, it will become the new standard compound the following year. As these tires are regularly sold on the market, it is not only the drivers of the world and national championships who benefit from them, but also all the amateurs and enthusiasts who choose them for their competitions and track days.
“Pirelli arrives at the first European round of this year with some innovations that affect Moto2™.
The first is represented by the new SCX rear in supersoft compound, which will now become the softest option available for riders in this category. It is not a completely new tire, as we have been using it successfully for years in the Superbike World Championship, where it is now the most used rear option during the season. We are therefore talking about a new compound exclusively for Moto2™ riders, who have already tested it on this track and with excellent results in the February tests, about which Pirelli has a very solid history of data and information. As it is a very soft compound, it cannot be assigned to every GP, as a lot depends on the characteristics of the asphalt and the layout of each circuit, as well as temperatures, which must not be too low, otherwise leading to excessive tire wear.
The second new feature is the D0640 development solution, which, starting from Jerez, becomes the new SC0, replacing the standard software used until now. This is a normal process that has always been part of our development strategy and philosophy, which allows us to offer, not only professional riders but also amateurs and all motorcycle enthusiasts, tires that are always up to date and always capable of offering the latest technological innovations that we develop thanks to our participation in the numerous championships in which we are involved."
