As the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello approaches, Team Fantic Racing Lino Sonego is showing impressive form in the Moto2 World Championship. Team Manager Roberto Locatelli takes the opportunity to review the start of the season for Aron Canet and Barry Baltus, both of whom have been in the spotlight on the circuits since the beginning of the year.
"The start of the season has been extremely positive", Locatelli immediately launches. It must be said that since the beginning of the year, Fantic Racing has established itself among the most competitive teams in the paddock. After promising pre-season tests, the Italian brand confirmed its potential, securing six podiums in the first nine rounds.
A less impressive record than that of its direct competitor, Team Intact GP represented by Manuel Gonzalez and Senna Agius, which already has four victories in 2025. Despite everything, on the scoreboard, the almost flawless consistency of Baltus and Canet allows Fantic to hold the championship lead, with a twelve-point margin.
"We are leading the drivers' standings with Aron [Canet], and the teams' standings, remember so Roberto Locatelli. We couldn't have asked for a better start, but there's still a long way to go."
Barry Baltus, one of the revelations of this start of the season, did not fail to surprise the latter. “He immediately showed he was in the right place, with the right mindset. For our part, we knew we had the structure to support him properly. But it's always the personality of the rider that makes the difference. Barry listened a lot, while maintaining his own identity – which is important. He's a talented rider. Talent should be respected, not overly polished. A lot of the credit goes to him.”
Aron Canet, who leads the championship tied with his main rival, remains Fantic's reference driver to this day. “Aron is leading the championship again. That doesn't surprise us. He still needs a bit more to reach 100% of his potential, especially in qualifying. Pirelli is doing a great job, as the Moto2 lap times showed, but at the same time, we need to carefully refine the technical package. We're working hard to find the right balance.”
What sets Fantic apart from other teams
A success that is no accident. In Moto2, the difference is made by small details, and Roberto Locatelli understands this well. “Each team has access to the same materials. That's what the regulations guarantee. But you can't buy the cohesion, trust, or passion of a united team. We are 13 people working side by side in the garage, and every choice comes from open dialogue. This unity is what makes us strong, especially in difficult times. Our team spirit is what sets us apart.”
Just a few days before the Italian Grand Prix, the Mugello meeting represents a major event for Fantic, whose headquarters are close to the circuit. “We always aim to be at the front. We don't change depending on the circuit or the moment. At Mugello, just like last year, we want the whole Fantic family to feel involved, on and off the track. It's a special event, and we want to take it on as favorites.”
Fantic Racing approaches the Italian Grand Prix, as well as the rest of the season, with confidence, driven by its own ambitions, and those of its drivers. Second in the Teams' standings last year, the men of the transalpine structure are sparing no effort to win the championship in 202. Aron Canet and Barry Baltus know this, embodying the success of a united team, described in three words by their leader: “Passion, family, competition.”
