Barry Baltus's third Moto2 podium finish, at the 2025 French Grand Prix at Le Mans, marks a new milestone in the history of Belgian motorcycle racing. With this performance, the number 7 rider became the first representative of his country to achieve two consecutive podium finishes in the discipline. He also progresses in the hierarchy of the very select circle of his compatriots who have shone on the world stage.
By finishing second at Le Mans, after having already climbed onto the podium at Jerez and at the previous Grand Prix, Barry Baltus brings his total of top-3 finishes in Moto2 to three. At just 20 years old, he has already surpassed figures like Livio Loi and Léon Martin, and is closing in on the record of Xavier Siméon, another recent benchmark in Belgian two-wheel racing, and the most recent winner, at the Sachsenring (Germany), in 2015.
This ranking, dominated by Didier de Radiguès (15 podiums), sees Barry Baltus become the fifth Belgian with the most world championship trophies. He thus closes to within one point of Xavier Siméon (4 podiums), fourth in the table, and two of Lucio Pietroniro (5 podiums), who is in third place.
Most of the drivers ahead of him have one thing in common: they have won at least one Grand Prix victory. A box that Barry Baltus has yet to tick. In the event of a victory, the number 7 would become his country's fifth winner, joining Didier de Radiguès (4 wins), Julien van Zeebroeck (3 wins), Xavier Siméon (1 win), and Livio Loi (1 win).
This performance is not just symbolic: it is part of the constant progression of Barry Baltus, now fourth in the Moto2 world championship. The Fantic rider, who is making his best start to the season, has already beaten his personal record for points in a season, with 73 points on the clock, while there are still 16 rounds to go in 2025.
The ranking of Belgian drivers according to their number of podiums in the world championship:
