After a hectic Moto3 session, during which the stewards had to wave the red flags due to incidents, the first Moto2 session at Le Mans was no walk in the park either. In the opening minutes of Free Practice 1, Zonta van der Goorbergh and Darryn Binder collided, both crashing. While the Dutchman escaped unscathed, the same cannot be said for the South African.

The avoidable incident that occurred between Darryn Binder and Zonta van der Goorbergh during their opening laps at Le Mans will have serious consequences for the former. After touching at Turn 9, the two drivers crashed, sliding for a long time on the asphalt before ending up in the gravel trap.

They were quickly taken care of by the stewards, and the RW Racing GP driver was even able to resume the session. For Binder, however, the extensive examinations carried out at the medical center by the circuit doctors brought much less encouraging news, as they detected a fracture in his left arm.

He will therefore be out for the remainder of the weekend at Le Mans, leaving Albert Arenas as the sole representative of the Gresini Moto2 team for the French Grand Prix. The duration of his rehabilitation is not yet known, but more bad news has added to the rider's woes.

Darryn Binder was found guilty of the incident and will be required to complete a long lap penalty upon his return to competition. "The FIM MotoGP Stewards have imposed a Long Lap Penalty on Moto2 rider Darryn Binder, riding the #15 machine, for causing an accident in FP1." teaches usofficial announcement.

Moto2 will return to the track between 14:05 PM and 14:45 PM on the Bugatti circuit, for the weekend's Practice, which will propel the top 14 in the final standings into Q2.
