Julian Simon had announced at the end of last season that he was letting go of the handlebars to take care of his friend's morale and training Tito Rabat. A task which the Spaniard takes seriously since he regularly follows the Marc VDS driver. He will therefore be in Qatar for the launch of the 2017 MotoGP campaign. A team which already has an injured person in its ranks. Its pilot Iker Lecuona indeed fell heavily during the Jerez tests and he was seriously injured. Multiple fractures serious enough to keep him out of the first Losail deadline.

Julian Simon is recently retired, he knows Moto2 well, having notably finished third in the German Grand Prix in 2016. He is also the former World Champion of the late 125cc in 2009. Letters of nobility which n have not escaped the Swiss team which offered a freelance Simon. An invitation that he accepted.

Julian Simon will therefore join Tom Luthi et Jesko Raffin. On his side Iker Lecuona hopes to be able to make his return to Argentina.
