Moto2 rider Romano Fenati attended a meeting at the FIM headquarters in Mies on Tuesday September 18 after an incident in Misano during the Moto2 race on Sunday September 9, 2018.

Mr Fenati, accompanied by his legal representative, was received by the President of the FIM, Vito Ippolito, and the Deputy General Director and Legal Director of the FIM, Richard Perret.

Mr Fenati was invited to explain in person his act on the Misano track, which gave rise to many extreme reactions in traditional media and on social media platforms.

During the meeting, FIM representatives highlighted the Federation's deep concern for the safety of all riders and other participants in motorcycle competitions. They also underlined the importance she attaches to fair play in motorcycling sport. While recognizing that drivers, and particularly those who reach the highest level of the sport, are subject to many pressures both on and off the track, they reminded Mr Fenati of the profound influence that athletes in high level can have on fans and young people and encouraged him to be aware of his responsibility to set a positive example in the future.

Following the discussion with the driver and his representative, the FIM decided to withdraw Mr. Fenati's FIM license until the end of the current calendar year. A new FIM license for the 2019 season may be granted subject to the conditions provided for by the FIM regulations.
