We will recall that Syahrin had been recruited as a last minute replacement for Jonas Folger on the Monster Energy Yamaha Tech3 team for the 2018 MotoGP season, scoring 46 points and almost earning the Rookie of the Year award. This service allowed him to stay with Tech3 as the team moved from Yamaha to KTM. There he struggled to achieve results in the RC16 to the point that his contract was not renewed for 2020.

Syahrin has nevertheless bounced back with the Angel Nieto team with a view to competing in the 2 Moto2020 World Championship, but according to a January 10 article on freemalaysiatoday.com, Syahrin receives no salary or travel expenses and has been unable to find sponsors to cover his needs.
