Fausto Gresini left them, leaving them orphans, but they will not be discouraged and will show that they can recover from this terrible fate. These are those who make up Gresini Racing, a large part of whom were in Valencia to prepare for a 2021 season which, whatever happens, will be special. Di Giannantonio and Bulega's comments do not say otherwise...

Nicholas Bulega et Fabio DiGiannantonio put on the helmet and the suit to get on their Kalex and ride at Valencia the day after the death of their boss Fausto Gresini. The heavy atmosphere of mourning which affects the entire motorcycle world is obviously felt even more strongly within this team. Especially since Gresini Racing team was called to the difficult task of hitting the track just twenty-four hours after the tragic death of his boss and leader.

The show must go on regardless. It is the well-known pitiless law, but it is also undoubtedly the most beautiful tribute to pay to the dearly departed. It was with great dedication and professionalism that Fausto's eponymous team faced the challenge. To face the first pre-season tests of the 2021 season, a sticker on the fairings to remember their leader was present.

The Moto3 riders competed on the Valencia circuit, but so did their slightly more experienced colleagues in Moto2. The two Italians Nicholas Bulega et Fabio Di Giannantonio worked for two days. Here is their assessment, despite everything.

By Giannantonio made his absolute debut with the Kalex, since coming from the SpeedUp and despite a fall on the first day, he achieved an encouraging time in 1'35.9. “ I was expecting a slightly different, more difficult bike... while the initial sensations are excellent, even if it is obvious that I will have to work mainly on my riding style to adapt. We didn't shoot much but the work helped a lot in preparation for Portimao ».

Heavy atmosphere at Gresini Racing : “this situation has destroyed us”

Positive feeling also for his teammate Open up, which collected data in preparation for the new test next week in Portugal: “ unfortunately we didn't ride as much as we wanted, but the feeling in general was very good. The team is great and we have a lot to do ».

Inevitably, however, the head was also elsewhere. “ Words fail me about Fausto… », comments Nicolò. “ This situation has destroyed us, we lost him in a few days and the pain is so bad. Maybe we didn't quite realize what had happened, but we came out on the track to honor him by pushing as hard as he would have liked ».

Fabio echoes him: “ I think filming was also the best thing to deal with the different emotions we all felt. I feel within myself that working and staying focused on the goals is the best way to say goodbye to Fausto. Our goal was to win and do a great job and we will try for him ».
