Slowly but surely, Raul Fernandez is establishing himself in the Grand Prix landscape. In this season, there is a lot of talk about Pedro Acosta as the revelation after only five Grands Prix consumed. But the Moto3 phenomenon has its counterpart in Moto2. It wears the same Red Bull KTM colors and it is under an awning well managed by Aki Ajo. And he's also a rookie. At 20 years old, Raul Fernandez has already won two victories and is second in his championship, one point behind his teammate Gardner. So if Acosta is being watched, it is Raul Fernandez who is being watched closely for a rapid rise in MotoGP…

A career development already seen with Joan mir et Maverick Vinales, who only had one season in Moto2 before finding yourself in MotoGP. But this is certainly not a subject addressed by Raul Fernandez who, in this sense, is in line with his boss Aki Ajo who doesn't want to hear about MotoGP in their Moto3 and Moto2 spaces... However, the results are there, revealing real potential. But what is reassuring is that everyone is keeping a cool head.

Proof of this is this declaration of Raul Fernandez after a Grand Prix of France masterfully dominated: “ we must continue to work hard and remember to stay calm and make as few mistakes as possible. We have to use our heads and above all enjoy every moment we are allowed to spend outside on the track ».

Two victories in his first five Moto2 races is still not nothing. But Raul fernandez insists: “ I want to enjoy the bike and whether I win or not, what I want is to enjoy. Last year I worked hard to be able to have fun and this year I continue on this path, race by race, and we will see where I am at the end of the season ».

A humble approach that he even exacerbates in order not to create tension with his teammate Remy gardner, who is only ahead of him at the top of the championship by a single point: “ we have a great relationship and I think we can fight on the circuit and not off it. We have a good relationship from the beginning, also now and I hope it lasts in the future. I don't want to fight him because he's stronger than me ". At the moment, however, the 23-year-old Australian is less successful than the Spaniard.

Raul Fernandez: “I am at KTM and I depend on this factory”

Raul fernandez also speaks well of its environment and its colors: “ Aki Ajo is the most important figure in my career, I think. Last season, I had too much pressure and I was thinking too much, without enjoying the races, and he, race after race, helped me, made me not think about these things. I think every driver is different, but he made me bring out my one hundred percent and have the calm I needed ". And then he doesn't forget KTM : " I am with KTM and I depend on this factory. They gave me the best opportunity and if they think I should continue another season in Moto2, I will continue. That's what I think ».

He even specifies regarding the famous question about the rise in MotoGP: “ I don’t want to think about MotoGP yet. I think all riders need at least two years in Moto2 and I want to continue here with my team for two years, because it's a big family ". This is sure to please the Mattighofen premises... However, we will still have to think about quickly setting up a place for it. Other manufacturers already have their eye on it.
