In one offseason, Sam Lowes felt like he was getting healthy again. It had in fact been two full seasons, including one spent in MotoGP, since the Englishman had dominated a timesheet, nor gained so much height in his ranking. At most, he was spoken of as the pilot who was a great specialist in falls. But it seems that by finding the Gresini team and a Kalex, he has found balance, both on his bike and in his head...

If the MotoGP season looks uncertain, that of Moto2 is no less uncertain. A new technical deal with a three-cylinder engine Triumph of 765cc and electronics, adds a starting grid made up of former recutters who do not want to resolve to the end of their careers and young people with long teeth at the dawn of theirs. Some, like Tom Luthi et Sam Lowes, can even boast of experience in MotoGP. And showed this winter that they have retained all their velocity.

The brother of an Alex who jousts Superbike on a Yamaha impressed for his return to the Federal Oil Gresini team. The Briton showed an interesting pace to say the least during the last day of testing in Qatar, with a time of 1'58,439 which allows him to end his off-season in solid form before the start of the season which will take place this weekend on the same circuit.

Lowes, who had his best Moto2 campaign finishing in fifth place in the category championship in 2016 with the Gresini team and a Kalex chassis, believes he was able to understand the limitations of his 2019 bike, with the new Triumph mechanics.

« We come from a very positive test in which we worked very hard, so I have to thank the whole team first of all ", said Lowes on crash.net. " We also managed to do a race simulation on the last day: we decided to do it during the day, when conditions are normally worse than at night, because we wanted to test the bike's limits. And I think we succeeded ».

« Generally speaking, we had an excellent winter and we found a good basis to work from for each Grand Prix. So I'm happy and positive before the first race of the year. The goal will be to stay at the forefront and fight for victory ».

Lowes was also a top challenger during testing at Jerez last month and in 2019 becomes one of the most experienced Moto2 riders on the grid. Indeed, he made his debut in 2014 after winning the World Supersport title the previous year.
