Luca Marini had a golden opportunity this year to win the Moto2 world title. With good momentum, he seemed to be marking his way to the top when a bad crash happened at Le Mans. After that, Valentino Rossi's half-brother lost his splendor. Is the fault in a diminished physique? Only in part, because Marini reveals another problem that cost him dearly...

Luca marini will therefore not have been a World Champion of Moto2 at the end of what will still remain one of his best seasons in Grand Prix. A disappointment however erased by his accession despite everything in MotoGP, and in the clan Ducati, where he will find himself as a teammate in the box Avintia the one who beat him for the crown, Enea Bastianini.

There remains this question: what caused the driver of the Sky VR46 ? Luca marini responds in an interview given to Tutomotoriweb : " I experienced a period where I obtained results well below our capabilities. A little was due to the ankle injury, but I think the problem was also the fact that in the same fall I damaged the frame a little ».

« However, we didn't notice the damage done because with the measuring tools we had it looked like the frame was okay, but it wasn't. So we had 3 Grands Prix with this problem, where I got two zeros and in the end they weighed very heavily » regrets Marini. " In such an uncertain and short championship, you cannot afford to have two blank results. We weren't good at handling this difficult moment on this occasion and it was just a shame ».

Luca marini, nevertheless, do not be brooding: “ I have no regrets for this season. It is true that we made mistakes, which did not allow us to win this title in which I had great faith. Also because I don’t think we were missing anything. We had all the credentials to win it. I felt very good this year in almost all the Grands Prix”.

« The feeling with the bike was great, but something was missing in the tough moments. We have paid for the mistakes we made. I can't regret anything because as far as my abilities are concerned, I gave 100%, in every GP, in every race, in every test session and in every meter that I covered with the bike, in every turn. I was very enthusiastic, I believed in it a lot, but unfortunately it happened like this, now we have to look to the future ».

Between Luca Marini and Bastianini the relationship is in good shape

A future which will be in MotoGP, on a Ducati and with the one who beat him for the title Enea Bastianini as a teammate. Three points that he addresses as follows: “ I don't think my physique will affect this new category too much. I was definitely a little tighter in Moto2. I had a little more trouble, but I don't think that could be an advantage or a disadvantage. At the end of the day, it's all about how you feel with the bike, how you feel. I think the most important thing is to take my time, but not to take too much time either to know the bike, to know the tires, to learn things quickly and then try to be as fast as possible when I ready meaning ».

On Ducati, he says : " Ducati says it's not the simplest bike. It's a bit of a special bike, but at the end of this year in 2020, they've been strong with a lot of riders, all riding differently. It was also the world champion team in the constructors' championship. I think in reality it can also be a balanced bike, but you have to know that. When you're a rookie, it's definitely more complicated. I would also like to see how Martin and Enea end up with this bike. It seems to me that Martin will have an official 2020, so it will be slightly different from mine. But it's good to have this comparison with the three rookies on the same machine. I spoke a little with Pecco, but quite rudely. I will ask him something more as the first test of the year approaches ».

He ends on bastianini : " Next year it will be very cool to have Enea as a teammate, because in the end it was nice to fight for the title with him until the last race. I think it's good that we are next year with the same team and the same bike, so we can see a little bit where we are with our first experience in MotoGP. I think we can talk a little about technical things, a little about the bike, help each other to improve quickly. Our relationship is very good ».

With the arrival of Luca marini, MotoGP will have three brothers competing in the category. brothers I will espargaro, Marquez, and so, Red with his half-brother Marini.
