Having just had shoulder surgery, the Sky Racing Team VR46 driver spoke with GP One about the upcoming season, of which he is one of the favorites.

Often injured in the shoulder, and particularly this year, Luca marini took the bull by the horns by deciding to have surgery: “My shoulder bothered me all season. I took painkillers every time. I'm going to sacrifice my winter to dedicate it to my recovery, hoping not to have too many problems. To get back to one hundred percent of my shape it will take me five or six months, but that should be fine to ride a Moto2. »

Considered as comme one of the favorites for the 2019 title, the Italian is expected to be at one hundred percent of his capabilities in order to fight at the forefront. But strangely, he doesn't really have this vision: “For the moment I don't feel the pressure at all because honestly, I don't consider myself one of the favorites yet because everything will change next year. Maybe a rider coming from Moto3, with a completely new bike, will be able to be fast straight away, like Martín for example. Regarding those who remained in the category, Binder will be one step ahead of the others. We will also be present because Kalex did a good job, we are a great team and I have no complaints. »

It is true that the category will change a lot with the arrival of new Triumph engines and that the cards could be redistributed. Marini welcomes these changes quite well: “I appreciate that there are changes from time to time. It will be good for Moto2. With the Triumph engine it will be necessary to modify the riding style, the tuning and the working method. In my opinion we are heading more in the direction of MotoGP. Now there is more acceleration and a different connection to the throttle. The tires will also need to be changed and I have already tried the new Dunlop rears and I think it is progress, especially for racing performance, but the bike becomes less fun. »

Finally, he will team with Nicolò Bulega, who will arrive from Moto3 and make his Moto2 debut alongside him: “I have more to teach Nicolò than Pecco taught me because Bulega is a beginner. During the first test he already understood how to ride Moto2 and was very strong. I hope I can do a good job alongside him, like we did with Pecco. When both drivers on the team are fast, it can help even more. »
