About Diana Tamantini / Motoracing

The Spanish rider would have liked to stay in Moto3 this year, but ultimately chose to take the plunge into Moto2. He returned to this decision and how he sees the rest of the season.

Marcos Ramirez is one of the rookies in Moto2 this year and his first race did not start in the best way since it ended after a few turns due to a fall. The transition to the intermediate category is not simple, but it is even less so this year due to the forced break in the championship. We must now be patient and hope that the competition returns quickly.

“We have only completed the tests and the first race. Unfortunately, it didn't go well as I crashed on the first lap. It's a shame because I think I could have scored a few points. Changing categories is difficult », he declared during a live on social networks.

“Moto2 and Moto3 are very different. I think the change is even bigger than the one between Moto2 and MotoGP. Apart from Arón Canet, we all have a little more difficulty adapting. It must also be said that the gaps are really small: 20-21 drivers stand together in one second! » The Spaniard was also not very keen to make this change now. “I wanted to arrive in Moto2 as World Champion”, he explained.

“I finished third in the championship in 2019, I wanted to continue with the same team and aim for the title. But in a sense, I “was forced” to do it: I am tall and heavy (1m75 and 64kg). Let's just say I was starting to be fair. And now I’m one of the lightest in Moto2! » This change therefore brings him the complete opposite of what he wanted with a new bike and a new team, but the Spanish rider seems satisfied with it: “People come from lots of different countries, there are French, Italians, Spanish, it’s a mix. The atmosphere is really serene, I'm happy with it. I want to fight for the top 10, if the season ever takes place. »

Uncertainty is indeed king at the moment, but Ramírez wants to believe in it: “For me it will happen. Lately they are considering doing the races behind closed doors, without hospitality, just with the teams. However, we will have to see what they decide. »

In the meantime, the Spanish pilot is getting organized at home. “In reality I can't do much, I do a little physical exercise, weights, cycling but not much. I also watch some series, but I prefer films. Like everyone else I want to go out, I now know every corner of my house”, he added, smiling.
