Moto2 Catalonia FP2

Arriving in Misano to contest the San Marino Grand Prix, Manuel Gonzalez has a more comfortable margin over his rivals than in previous Grands Prix. Aron Canet's retirement in Barcelona, combined with Diogo Moreira's poor performance, 14th in Catalonia, allows the championship leader to start the final round of the discipline's European tour with a lead of 38 and 42 points over his rivals. Despite this, 175 points are still at stake this season, and anything is still possible...

Qualification 1:

Tony Abrolino set the fastest time in Q1 with a 1:34.530 attempt. Under the watchful eye of Fabio Quartararo, who was present in the Pramac Yamaha box to coach him, the Italian propelled himself into Q2 on home soil.

Behind him, Aron Canet, who started as the hot favorite for this session, missed out by two tenths of a second off the best time. Daniel Munoz, who recorded his first podium in Catalonia, and Ayumu Sasaki, completed the top four. These men join the 4 drivers who had already qualified for Q14 at the end of Friday.

Qualification 2:

Very early in the session, the track record was broken once again in Moto2. Tony Arbolino, fresh from Q1, took the record previously held by Celestino Vietti. However, the riders set the bar high in these Qualifying sessions. At the checkered flag, it was Daniel Holgado who had the final say. The rookie, winner of the Catalan Grand Prix, set a time of 1:34.256, which allowed him to secure his second consecutive pole position.

Celestino Vietti, who dominated all weekend, finished 2nd, just a few thousandths of a second behind. Manuel Gonzalez completed the front row. Behind the championship leader, Fantic riders Barry Baltus and Aron Canet distinguished themselves with 4th and 5th fastest times. They started from a second row completed by... Diogo Moreira.

All the favorites are therefore at the forefront, and the fight for victory promises to be intense between these four men, who have led the Moto4 general classification since the start of the season.
