In Moto2™, Fermín Aldeguer wins and Joe Roberts establishes the new race lap record, in Moto3™, first victory of the year for the Dutchman Collin Veijer, and Ryusei Yamanaka improves the race lap record by one second.
During a Spanish GP in which nearly 200 spectators participated on site, Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) took his first victory of the season in the Moto2™ category. Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) finished second, after a spectacular comeback from eleventh position, setting the new race lap record on lap nine with a time of 1'41.020. Third place for Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™/Kalex).
Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna/Husqvarna) took victory in the Moto3™ category. This is the Dutchman's first victory of the year, achieved thanks to a consistent race with lap times regularly between 1'45.1 and 1'45.6, well below the previous race lap record. The second and third places, occupied by David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) and Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI/KTM), were just as consistent. The new race lap record went to the Japanese Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI/KTM), who improved his own record by one second.
“It was undoubtedly a positive weekend for us and the performance of all our tires confirms this. In Moto2™, we achieved an average improvement per lap of four tenths compared to 2023, with Roberts setting the new race lap record. The choice of rear tire, given the somewhat high temperatures of the asphalt, was more or less unanimous in favor of the soft SC0, while at the front we saw the SC1 and SC2 in action with similar results. Among the top five drivers in the standings, three raced with the SC1 and two with the SC2. In Moto3™, the results are even more impressive when you consider that the improvement in race time compared to last year was incredible: 28 seconds, which translates to a faster lap time of 1,5 .19 seconds. Just consider that no less than XNUMX drivers fell below the track record and all three on the podium ran from start to finish well below the record, demonstrating exceptional consistency in the performance of the part of the tires. We are also happy with the start of the FIM Red Bull Rookies Cup. The talented young drivers raced in very different conditions between then and now, always supported by the excellent performance of our tires. This is a category that pits drivers of different experience levels against each other, but they managed to adapt very quickly to tires that were unfamiliar to them.”
Moto2 ™
– Regarding the rear tire, the drivers’ choices for the race were more or less unanimous. Everyone mounted the softest SC0 solution, with the exception of Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia/Kalex) who preferred the SC1 (medium). Up front, the SC1 (soft) was used by 19 riders, including race winner Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) and third-place finisher Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2/Kalex), while all 11 others opted for the SC2 (medium), including Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex), second in the event.
– Joe Roberts also set the new race lap record of 1'41.020 on the ninth lap, improving the one set by Sam Lowes in 3 by almost 2021 tenths of a second. In addition to the American driver, four other drivers also broke the previous record, including the other two on the podium, Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets – MSI/Boscoscuro) and Marcos Ramirez (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex).
– The race time was 35'36.316, 9 seconds more than in 2023 with an average improvement in lap times of more than 4 tenths, in temperature conditions similar to those of last year.
Moto3 ™
– Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Husqvarna) won the race after starting from third on the grid using SC2 (medium) compound tires front and rear. It was also the most popular combination, chosen by 17 of the 26 drivers in the race. Behind the Husqvarna rider, the Spaniards David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM), who started second, and Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets – MSI/KTM), third from seventh on the grid with a SC1 compound rear tire combined with a before SC2, finished the race.
– Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets – MSI/KTM), fourth on the finish line, set the new race lap record on the eighth lap in 1'45.105, beating the previous one, set in 2023, by one second. The Japanese rider used SC1 (soft) tires front and rear, with only Taiyo Furusato (Honda Team Asia/Honda) and Xabi Zurutuza (Red Bull KTM Ajo/KTM) doing so.
