The second and final day of private testing for the Moto2 and Moto3 teams in Portimão ended with domination by the teams of Aki Ajo, Remy Gardner (Kalex, Red Bull KTM Ajo) and Pedro Acosta (KTM, Red Bull KTM Ajo) proving fastest in Moto2 and Moto3.
Of the duel between Remy gardner et Marco Bezzecchi (Kalex, SKY Racing Team VR46) who hosted the first day of Moto2 testing at the Algarve circuit rented by Petronas, it was ultimately the Australian driver who emerged victorious, dominating the day by lowering his best time from 1'43.375 to 1'42.962. Despite a notable wind, the son of Wayne is therefore getting closer to his absolute record on the Portuguese circuit established in 1'42.504 last November.
Conversely, Marco Bezzecchi, who led yesterday by 53 thousandths, was unable to repeat his time from the day before on the second day, mainly because of a morning crash which disrupted his program.
Behind Aki Ajo's new driver, we find Joe Roberts (Kalex, Italtrans Racing Team), already third yesterday: acclimatization with his new team seems to be going well and he will have to be reckoned with!
The next one is Jorge Navarro (Speed Up, +Ego Speed Up), who recovered from a crash yesterday after trying to find the best setup for the next day. The Spaniard is satisfied even if he lacks time to try some changes. Xavier Vierge (Kalex, Petronas Sprinta Racing) and Fabio Di Giannantonio (Kalex, Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) complete the list of times. Note that his teammate Nicolò Bulega (Kalex, Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) had more difficulties, only completing a few laps on the first day and being forced into “quarantine” for a false positive the next day. For him, work will only continue in Qatar with the next test scheduled for March 19-21.
Like yesterday, the best rookie is named Raúl Fernández (Red Bull KTM Ajo) with a good eighth position for the winner of the last Grand Prix in the Moto3 category on the same track.
Good progress for the new arrival Cameron Beaubier (American Racing Team) who went from 18th to 10th place, even allowing himself the luxury of preceding his teammate Marcos Ramirez.
As for Moto3, the rookie Pedro Acosta (KTM, Red Bull KTM Ajo) achieved the best overall performance with a lap in 1'47.849, one second better than the first day. To compare, Jaume Masia set the absolute circuit record in 1'47.398 last November.
The latest winner of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup leads by 54 thousandths John mcphee (Honda, Petronas Sprinta Racing), in front Andrea Migno (Honda, Snipers Team), the fastest man yesterday.
Once again, the Leopard Racing team drivers drove without a transponder, and there are therefore no time references for them.
