Aron Canet took pole for the second time in his Moto2 career after Styria 2020. This Sunday he will aim to take his first victory in the discipline. On pole last time in Austin, Cameron Beaubier qualified in second position for his second front row. On the podium for the first time in Moto2 in Austin, Jake Dixon qualified in third position. This is the second time he has qualified in the top 3 in Moto2, after Indonesia this year where he was in pole position.
Winner at COTA, Tony Arbolino qualified in fourth position (via Q1), and this is the fourth time he has qualified in the top 4 this year. He will attempt to win two consecutive Moto2 races for the first time. Augusto Fernandez qualified in fifth position, this is the fourth time this year that he has qualified in the first two rows. He will attempt to reach the podium for the first time since his third place in Valencia last year.
In pole position for the 2021 Portuguese Grand Prix, Sam Lowes is sixth for his second best qualification of the year after Qatar and Indonesia where he was in third position. He has been on the podium twice at Portimao: P3 at the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix and the 2021 Algarve Grand Prix. Celestine Vietti is 13th for his worst result since his 14th place at the 2021 Algarve Grand Prix. He finished sixth in the race.
What will this category warm-up have in store for us, an essential exercise since it will be the first time that the drivers will have to deal with a dry track? Before answering this question, here is the table which summarizes the facts known so far.

The sky is still overcast but rain is no longer really a danger on a dry Portimao track at 14° while 16° is the ambient temperature. These 10 minutes of exercise will be of great importance for the race to come since, until then, the drivers have only driven on wet Portuguese asphalt.
