When for his Moto2 Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, Fabio Di Giannantonio brought the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2 team back to the front with its first victory in the World Championship in the intermediate category, which is also the first for the Italian team in almost five seasons (the previous one dates back to Aragon 2016 with Sam Lowes).

The Italian driver had a spectacular race and dominated from the start after a dazzling start and almost immediate overtaking on Remy gardner. After a 23-lap solo race during which he continued to increase his lead, the 22-year-old Roman finally crossed the finish line with almost two seconds ahead of Marco Bezzecchi.

After three years in Moto3 concluded with a vice-champion place behind George Martin in 2018, Fabio DiGiannantonio currently occupies fifth place in the Moto2 World Championship, 17 points behind Remy gardner, 14 behind Sam Lowes, 11 behind Raul fernandez and 4 behind Marco Bezzecchi.

Fabio DiGiannantonio : “I feel amazing!” It's fantastic to come back to the front and get my first victory in Moto2! I sweated a lot over the last two years to win, and now it's here so wow! Fantastic !
The race was incredible and I had a fantastic start which I didn't expect because I'm always average at that. So I had a fantastic start and when I got to the front, I said to myself “OK, now take your pace, concentrate on your lines and enjoy the bike”. I was quite easily in 41.5.

Of course I suffered tire degradation, especially at the front I had a good gap to deal with and enough time to figure this situation out. That helped and I was a little slower for two or three laps before getting back to 41.5. I think that was the key to this long race.

In the end, what more can I say: incredible performance and an incredible result. I just have a big smile and I'm happy. I am happy and I would like to share this with Fausto Gresini but I cannot. Certainly, my thoughts are always with him and he is with me, which is a great motivation to always try to do better and better. »
