Peter Acosta

What happened in the Ajo KTM box and on Pedro Acosta's side in this qualifying session for the Qatar Grand Prix this Saturday? We don't know exactly at the moment, but to say that he doesn't want to talk about it, the Spanish prodigy already says too much. These words are full of resentment and given the sporting, political and strategic sensitivity of the person, this unexpected incident will certainly give rise to explanations in high places, at KTM and Red Bull…

Peter Acosta is a rookie already gifted in Moto2 as he was in Moto3 last year, a campaign which ended with a world title. But he remains a beginner and a beginner, that also makes mistakes. Efficient, Peter Acosta suffered during the qualifications a second fall after that of FP3, four minutes from the end of hostilities, which means that the accident put an end to his chances of securing what would have been a resounding pole position.

He finally started ninth in his first race in the category and it is fortunate that he was not injured. Everything seems to be going well in the best of all possible worlds. But in fact, not at all... After this second accident, the pilot Red Bull KTM Garlic had to go to Losail Circuit Medical Center to treat a scrape he suffered on his right elbow, and after receiving medical attention, his team decided that Pedro was not going to speak to the press until tomorrow, saying that his driver needed to rest and concentrate for Sunday.

Despite the fact that Aki Ajo's team did not want interviews, Acosta briefly spoke with DAZN to find out about his fitness and feelings ahead of his racing debut. The rider from Puerto de Mazarrón said that “ it could be better and worse  » after his two falls on Saturday, both apparently light from the outside. “ Finally, I'm fine. We will see how the body reacts tomorrow in a race with a lot of laps and a lot of turns ", declared the pilot of 17 years.

But it’s what happens next that calls for attention. Pedro Acosta explained that before falling in Q2, “ it was going well " and " no one put pressure on me  » to be on the front line. “ I was having a good time, but hey, these things happen. I learned more in this qualification than in all the ones I did last year, I'll stick to that  » briefly summarized Acosta. Asked about his injuries beyond the one he suffered on his right elbow - covered in gauze -, Acosta assured that there was “ something else » apart from this scratch, « but I keep that to myself » added number 51.

Tomorrow, from 14:20 p.m., the traffic lights of the Losail circuit will go out and Peter Acosta will experience his first race in the Moto2 category, an event of which he assures “ don't wait for anything, 20 rounds and finish“, replied the Spaniard, visibly annoyed…
