Born in July 1999, the young Axel Bassani won the first edition of the FIM Supersport Cup Europe last year on a Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R from the Italian team San Carlo FMI, and, after shining during the French round of the World Championship at Magny-Cours, signed a 3-year renewable contract with the Moto2 SpeedUp team, alongside Simone Corsi.
The Italian pilot was very present during the last tests in Jerez but, surprisingly, absent during this first day in Losail, what a press release: “because of an intervention which took place at the end of last year, Axel Bassani is still not in good physical condition to endure a race. "
He is therefore temporarily replaced by the seasoned Spanish pilot Ricky Cardus, former owner of the Tech3 Racing Moto2 team.
