Jake Dixon, who suffered a broken right wrist during the Gran Premio de Europa, underwent successful surgery last Friday in the United Kingdom. The Petronas Sprinta Racing team rider, who has already missed the Valencia GP, will not be able to participate in the last Moto2 race of the 2020 season, Sunday in Portimão.

Jake Dixon underwent a two-hour operation with Dr Mike Hayton at Spire Hospital in Manchester on Friday (November 13). Medical examinations confirmed that it was a serious wrist injury with several broken bones and cartilage damage. During the operation, the ligaments were repaired and the broken bones fixed with wires. Post-operative checks indicate that the operation was a success.

The healing process can now begin for Dixon, with the Moto2 rider able to begin light cardio within a week. By mid-December, Jake should be able to have the wires removed from his wrist. At that time, the Briton will be able to begin his physiotherapy program.

With 44 points, he currently occupies 18th place in the world championship, and his season is unfortunately over.

Jake Dixon: « It's been a tough time since my accident in FP2 in Valencia two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the injury was more serious than expected, so I had to have surgery. I want to thank Dr. Mike Hayton and his team for the great work they did on Friday, as well as my family, my team and my fans for the support they gave me last week. This is definitely the worst way to end what has been a great second year in Moto2, but I'm sure it will make us stronger next year. It's a shame that I won't be able to participate in the last round of the season, because I'm really looking forward to getting back on my bike. We will follow the rehabilitation plan that the doctor prescribed to get fit as soon as possible. »
