Sam Lowes isn't shy when he talks about his former employer Aprilia...

Sam Lowes would find himself in a delicate situation after in Assen, the Dutch authorities noted that the Englishman had been operating in the Schengen area for more than 90 days. A cursor that every subject of his gracious majesty must take into account since the famous Brexit. Given the theoretical consequences that this oversight by the Marc VDS drivers may cause, his season may already be over...

The information comes from speedweek. After the Dutch Grand Prix at Assen, a British pilot was caught by border guards and charged with spending more than 90 days in the EU after six months had passed. To find which one, it is enough to proceed by elimination since only John McPhee, Jake dixon et Sam Lowes are on the starting grid. But the Scotsman John mcphee lives in the non-EU principality of Andorra and Jake dixon, his Petronas Moto2 teammate, lives in England, where he returns regularly since he is married to Sarah, the daughter of former racing driver Eddie Roberts.

So all that remains is Sam Lowes, eight times winner in Grand Prix and Moto2, including the woman Marina Rossi, team coordinator at Marc VDS, is Italian. They have a daughter, Kathryn, who was born in 2018. During breaks from racing, this beautiful family frequently resides in… Italy.

Sam Lowes expelled?

However, since Brexit, recorded on 1er January 2021, British citizens must, after the expiration of a maximum period of 90 days, leave the Schengen area. They can only return 180 days after their first entry for a new maximum stay of 90 days, and so on for any other trip. As with other third country (non-EU) citizens, their passports are stamped with the date of entry and exit so that border officials can verify the time they spend in this Schengen area.

In the event of non-compliance with the rules, the offender may be asked to leave the area within 30 days if it is discovered that he has overstayed. Also according to Speedweek, the British driver in question was checked at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and was taken away by customs authorities after the Assen Grand Prix.

It is now uncertain whether the driver in question will be allowed to re-enter the EU in time for the two Grand Prix in Spielberg / Austria (August 8 and 15). It cannot be ruled out that the caught British Grand Prix driver may no longer be seen on the starting grid of the World Championship before the Grand Prix of Silverstone on August 29. His team, Dorna and the FIM are already mobilized to explain the pilot's particular situation to the authorities so that he can be considered an exception...
