The Dynavolt Intact GP team driver spoke with speedweek about the situation of German drivers, who are few in number in the World Cup, as well as the approaching 2019 season.

Marcel Schrötter is one of the oldest riders in the Moto2 World Championship. Aged 26, he has six full seasons and two half seasons in the category after three years in 125cc then Moto3. Despite his experience, he only achieved the first podium of his career this year, at the Misano Grand Prix. Furthermore, this is the first time that we have really seen him gain momentum and be more and more present at the front every weekend, whether in testing or in the race.

The German driver therefore wishes to continue his momentum and gain more confidence in himself : “It would be a mistake to think that the new Moto2 season will be easier. Yes, there were good riders last year and they will now be in MotoGP but riders like Fabio Quartararo created a surprise when we weren't expecting them at the front. He was almost nowhere in 2017 and today he is also in MotoGP. There will always be new strong riders but you have to focus on yourself. This is something I want to improve on. I have to focus more on myself and my team, regardless of what others are doing. We know our potential and we know where we want to go. This will have to be taken into account during the new season. »

Schrötter's journey resembles that of Philip Oettl, who entrusted us that the German drivers needed more time to express themselves in the World Cup. The two men will also be, with Lukas Tulovic, the only Germans in the World Championship, all categories combined. An opinion shared by Marcel Schrötter who regrets lack of support from his country to this sport: “A lot of things would have to change in Germany to be able to reach a high level. There are no more major championships apart from the ADAC Junior Cup. This remains an important stage for motorcycle sport but many riders arrive there around the age of 15 and it is already too late to hope to break through internationally. You can spend a year or two there but at some point you have to get to the CEV and the junior world championships to get there. If you do well in Spain, you usually have the opportunity to participate in the World Championship through contacts. The CEV is very linked to the World Cup, many teams have teams there. This therefore remains the best way to get there, or else you have to go through the Rookies Cup. Unfortunately, talented German pilots are not supported. »
