Moto2

Moto2 resumes its tour after the summer break. The first of eleven remaining stops is this weekend at Silverstone, for the British Grand Prix. Before starting the hostilities of this second part of the season, it is Sergio Garcia who leads the way, with seven points ahead of his teammate, Ai Ogura. Injured at Assen, Joe Roberts was not 100% at Sachsenring, but certainly took advantage of the interruption of racing to return to the top and begin to make up for his deficit of 24 units this weekend.

Before we begin, here is a table which summarizes the known facts:

Moto2™ Great Britain, Silverstone

2023

2024

FP 2'05.399 Pedro Acosta
P1 2'04.357 Arón Canet
P2 2'22.099 Jake Dixon
Q1 2'17.663 Tony Arbolino
Q2 2'16.953 Pedro Acosta
Course Aldeguer, Canet, Acosta (See here)
All time lap record 2'03.988 Marco Bezzecchi (2021)

The drivers take their first laps after the holidays, and Aron Canet quickly takes the lead. The No. 44 completed an attempt in 2:05.074, relegating Jake Dixon and Ai Ogura to three tenths of his time.

Dixon, however, will put everyone in agreement before the traditional lull, with a time just under 2:05. Behind, Celestino Vietti also stands out and is placed in provisional third place.

With ten minutes remaining in time, things pick up, and Joe Roberts shows his competitors that his collarbone injury is now behind him. The American completes a lap of the Silverstone circuit in 2:04.566. The second time held by Jake Dixon is then four tenths slower.

However, several drivers will take the lead in the final moments of this first session of the weekend. Among them Tony Arbolino and Manuel Gonzalez, who had until then remained in the background.

However, it is Aron Canet who will have the last word thanks to a time of 2:04.21. Somkiat Chantra and Manuel Gonzalez complete the top-3. A time which suggests that the Moto2s will be able to go well below this mark over the sessions.

The championship leaders finished between sixth and eighth place, with Roberts ahead of Ogura and Garcia.

As a reminder, Deniz Oncu is still absent from the track, following a hand injury from which he has not yet recovered. For this reason Marcel Schrotter makes his third consecutive stint in Moto2.
