Moto2

Moto2 resumes its tour after the summer break. The first of eleven remaining stops is this weekend at Silverstone, for the British Grand Prix. Before starting the hostilities of this second part of the season, it is Sergio Garcia who leads the way, with seven points ahead of his teammate, Ai Ogura. Injured at Assen, Joe Roberts was not 100% at Sachsenring, but certainly took advantage of the interruption of racing to return to the top and begin to make up for his deficit of 24 units this weekend.

Before we begin, here is a table which summarizes the known facts:

Qualification 1:

The first part of the qualifying session for the British Moto2 GP welcomes a big customer. Author of a poor performance during P2 this Saturday morning, Fermin Aldeguer is competing in his first Q1 of the year.

The Spaniard, however, was quick to get his competitors to agree, setting the best time after everyone's first attempts. During the last bursts of time, the No. 54 confirmed, and finished at the head of the session with 49 thousandths ahead of Albert Arenas.

Bo Bendsneyder and Jeremy Alcoba also stood out from the crowd and earned their ticket to Q2 at Silverstone, with times four tenths slower than those of the other two.

The Belgian, Barry Baltus, improved in his last effort, but failed to reach the top-4. The No. 7 starts the race in 19th position on the starting grid.

Qualification 2:

As since the start of the weekend, Aron Canet is there. The Spaniard quickly took the lead with a time of 2:02.992. However, it was Ai Ogura who returned to the pits with provisional pole, before starting the second half of Q2. The Japanese then has a lead of 52 thousandths over Canet.

Despite his attempts in front of the checkered flag, Canet did not improve. After dominating the entire weekend's sessions, the No. 44 was forced to lose to Ogura, who thus took pole position for the Ghent Moto2 British Prix.

Diogo Moreira creates a surprise, and completes the top-3 by two tenths. Celestino Vietti continues his momentum, and takes fourth place on the starting grid at Silverstone.

Author of a disappointing Saturday, Fermin Aldeguer slightly limits the damage with 11th position. Joe Roberts also missed the meeting, and finished 9th in these qualifications. An incident that occurred between the two drivers during Q2 is also under investigation.

The championship leader, Sergio Garcia, is making his task much more complicated. It will be difficult for him to maintain his advantage against his teammate – who starts from pole – with the 16th place he claims at the end of Q2.
