The site speedweek reported some very strange news: Sito Pons would come to regret having signed a French driver!

An observation which is undoubtedly not without foundation if we take into account the difficulty of finding sponsors in Spain for a French driver, but which, once published in the press, becomes as skillful as Lin Jarvis announcing in beginning of the year that Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith would no longer be part of their troupe the following year…

Especially since the Spanish team manager goes further since he manages to publicly state his regret at not having signed Jorge Navarro! The 2016 season hasn't even ended yet, so this is enough to create a good atmosphere within a 2017 team that has barely been formed.

Site Pons: “I took Quartararo under contract prematurely. I should have played poker and waited. From today's perspective, Navarro would have been a better choice. A young driver must fight for a year for the podium before being a title contender, and such a year involves a large number of crashes. Fabio has not yet had such a season. I fear that he will catch up with me in 2017. Fabio Quartararo has not yet won anything in the Moto3 World Championship, and it is therefore difficult to make him attractive to my sponsors, especially since he is French. Honestly, if I had the choice, I would prefer Navarro. »

This is what is said, forgetting however to specify that Fabio Quartararo's future teammate in 2017 is named Edgard Pons, who, after several years spent in Moto2, is still far from attracting the desire of sponsors (31st in the championship with 4 points), but being one of the sons of the former Spanish rider, this obviously poses no problem...
