A Spanish trio is in the lead during the last day of Moto2 testing at the Jerez circuit – Ángel Nieto, Peter Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) being a new time the fastest driver of the day while waiting for the official tests.
The private Moto2 tests on the Andalusian circuit ended, once again with magnificent weather which allowed the teams and the 29 riders present to do numerous laps during the two days of work, before packing up and travel to Portimão, where the official tests of the Moto2 and Moto3 categories will take place from this Friday to Sunday, before the first Grand Prix of the season next week.
The Jerez test was an opportunity for the drivers to discover the new Triumph engine which will equip the category. This engine, which offers 400 rpm more than the previous one, improves mid-range response. Yesterday, eight pilots used it, while today the use has been standardized for all pilots. It seems that the improvement is palpable, even if the times don't really reflect it.
Today, for the farewell of this category until the real start of the season, it is again the Spaniard Peter Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo), yesterday's dominator, who set the tone by improving his best time from yesterday by two tenths to sign a time of 1'41.309 which is lower than the best official lap on this track achieved by the British Sam Lowes (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) in 2021 with 1'41.313.
The Spaniard confirms to the rest of the drivers that he is one of the favorites for the title this season, and he will have a good opportunity in Portugal this weekend to compare his speed with that of the rest of the competitors. Today he was two tenths ahead of the Spaniards Aron Canet (Flexbox HP40) (1) and Alonso lopez (Speed Up Racing) (1'41.575).
Fourth place goes to Tony Arbolino (ELF Marc VDS Racing Team) (1'41.732), followed by Sam Lowes in 1'41.851. Behind Sam Lowes, Albert Arenas (Red Bull KTM Ajo) took sixth place in 1'41.852. Seventh, Lukas Tulovic (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) in 1'42.078, followed by Joe Roberts (Italtrans Racing Team) (1'42.174), Barry Baltus (RW Racing GP) (1'42.190) and Manuel González (1'42.307) in the top ten. For his part, the Andalusian pilot from Conil de la Frontera, Marcos Ramirez (MV Agusta Forward Team), finished in twenty-third place, but improving his time from the day before by more than 5 tenths.
