The two smaller categories of the world championship, Moto2 and Moto3, have just finished their pre-season. Last week, two days of private Moto2 and Moto3 tests were held in Portimao (Portugal). This time, all the teams returned to the track on the Jerez circuit, as part of three official days of riding. Aron Canet finished this Moto2 Jerez Test in the lead.
Barry Baltus and Aron Canet once again paraded at the top of the scoreboard on this third and final day of action in Jerez. While Moto2 opened the show on the Spanish track, the 2024 vice-champion ended the session with a time of 1:39.552. A mark that would remain unbeaten throughout the day.
The competition was tough against the Spaniard. During each of the three days of testing, his Belgian garage neighbour held his own, gradually getting closer to his reference marks. At the end of the morning, Barry Baltus was just four thousandths of a second behind the No. 44. This new adventure with Fantic is off to a good start, and the pre-season results are more than promising. Barry Baltus still has to confirm this at the first round of the season, which will already take place next week.
Manuel Gonzalez managed to post a similar time in the second session, which he finished ahead of the others by completing a total of 27 laps on the Jerez circuit.
Reigning Moto3 world champion David Alonso also took advantage of the final session to gather all the information he could on his Aspar Team Kalex. The Colombian focused on his pace and improving his track feel, setting the twentieth fastest time of the day (1:40.695).
Few riders rode in the final session of the day. In total, only fifteen riders set a time. Deniz Oncu set the best time of the afternoon, with a time of 1:39.693. Jake Dixon and Marcos Ramirez completed the top-three to conclude the tests.
