Next September, Tom Luthi will be 33 years old. Which is not yet a completely canonical age in Grand Prix when we know that a Valentino Rossi is still green at 40 years old. But the Swiss is no longer in MotoGP. He finds himself among the young guns of a refurbished Moto2. The latter are on the rise while the Swiss have seen past opportunities. He just needs to last and do his job to the best of his ability. And for that, you have to be motivated like never before!

Precisely, the one who was twice world vice-champion in Moto2 and World Champion in 125, proclaims loud and clear that he is approaching this 2019 season with the bit in his teeth. “ I am motivated like never before. I want to show that the old man can still be fast ". For the moment, this velocity has materialized in a fourteenth place at the end of the three days of test in Jerez : " I'm still too far away, that's for sure » recognizes the now Dynavolt pilot. “ This is not the place we want to be. But that's not yet the subject ».

Because the one who suffered so much in 2018 on an RC213V in MotoGP must put in his hands a Kalex now powered by a 765cc three-cylinder Triumph: “ we go step by step we stay very focused. You have to be patient. The bike is new, you have to find out how it reacts and adjust the settings accordingly. This is why it is not yet important to be at the top of the timesheet ».

He insists on crash.net : " it is more important to have good sensations to feel everything under control and precisely, at the moment, I am approaching the limit a little too quickly. I do not like it. I have never crashed with this bike yet and we have to push this limit further ».

He finishes : " I'm really motivated. Especially in this team where everyone is perfect. It's really good to work with them. They are also determined and I like working with people like that. I believe in myself and I think I can still be fast. We're having fun, we're on the right track. So it will pay off. It's all about knowing when ».

On the sensations distilled by this new Moto2, he specifies: “ it should not be compared with a MotoGP. It's another world. It must therefore be evaluated with the old Moto2. There are things you have to adapt to. But it's interesting, with a touch of electronics. You have to get your driving style in tune. We try a lot of things. Otherwise, for the championship, I see Sam Lowes, Luca Marini and Brad Binder's KTM as the first favorites ».
