Tony Arbolino

In exactly one week, the Grand Prix season will have resumed at Silverstone, the track which will mark the reunion in Moto2 between Tony Arbolino and Pedro Acosta. The two men are competing for the title in the intermediate category this year, with the Italian leading the provisional general classification with an eight-point lead over the Spaniard. But the latter already knows that he will be in MotoGP in 2024 with a KTM while, in this promotion, everything has still to be decided for Carlo Pernat's protégé. So he must make the difference on the track and show that he is stronger than the man we call the future Marc Marquez.

The summer break ends in Grand Prix and Tony Arbolino pointed this out by recalling in an interview with motorsport relayed by AS that this last part of the season will be that of the big stakes in Moto2. For the Italian, there will be two: working and succeeding behind the scenes to secure a place in MotoGP for next year, while remaining focused on the track to clinch the world title in the category. A challenge, but it is so, as he himself clarified: “ we know that things will be done before the championship is decided ».

In fact, he marks his territory thus: “ the most important thing is to win this year. My intention is to enter MotoGP and I think I am better prepared than ever. But it doesn't depend on me, it's not in my hands and it's difficult to manage and know how it can end. But I'm ready ».

Tony Arbolino: “ Pedro Acosta has flaws and that is where we will attack, it will be important to have mental strength »

Inevitably, to assert himself, he is led to compare himself to a Peter Acosta which no one doubts, while he is obliged to establish his legitimacy at every turn. To break the spell like this curse, Tony Arbolino intends to shake the certainties of his rival: “ I think I have a little more cool head in racing than Pedro Acosta, I can think a little more about the bike when things aren't going well, and that's a point in my favor ».

« He's very fast, but so am I. We are two very complete drivers, but he has flaws, like everyone else, and that's where we are going to attack “, he explained. “ Physically, we are both very strong. It will be important to have mental strength and to be very close to the team, very compact, never letting anyone distract us. It is in the Asian Tour races that we will see who deserves the title of world champion ».

He ends with how he will approach the rest of the competition: “ I don't have a defense plan, I've never gone to defend at any point in my career, not even when I was more points ahead. My strategy has always been to attack, to try to win or, failing that, to score as many points as possible. Never come out to defend yourself, that's the way I am ».
