This 2019 season marked a turning point in the history of a Moto2 category, intended as the antechamber of MotoGP. A discipline born in 2010 and which put the 250 with its two-stroke engine in the souvenir aisle. With a 600 four-stroke, Honda ensured the sole supply of the mechanics, but it was starting to run out of steam. In 2019, Triumph took over with a 765 cc three-cylinder. For what assessment? Very positive!

By taking up the challenge of supplying the entire Moto2 grid with its engine, Triumph took a risk that was nevertheless worth taking. What could be better, in fact, for the reputation of the Hinckley factory than to appear in the Grand Prix? That being said, we shouldn't miss it. After this first campaign which dedicated Alex Marquez, the English regret nothing.

The competitions were competitive and category records were broken in 85% of the races. The three-cylinder 765 cc Moto3 was born from the development of the Triumph Street Triple RS 765 cm3 for competition. It delivers more than 140 hp and music that delights all enthusiasts.

More power and more torque allowed drivers to use different lines without compromising corner exit, which favored overtaking and tight pack racing. A change thatAlex Marquez, first World Champion of the Triumph era commented: “ with the added torque of the Triumph engine, my riding style is more natural. In slow corners, where I have to stop the bike and open the throttle again, this three-cylinder works much better for my trajectories and my style »

After more than 300km of 000rpm track action in 14, the top three finished separated by just 000 points, the narrowest difference of any category. In addition, a total of 18 maximum speed records and 16 fastest lap records were set in 2019, and it is also the first time that we have exceeded 300 km/h in Moto2, with a maximum of 301,8 km/h.

Triumph Motorcycles Director of Product Development, Steve Sargent, says: our first season has gone by very quickly since the first race in Qatar, and we are delighted with how everything has developed, the intensity of the races and the number of different drivers who have reached the podium. We're also pleased with the reliability and performance, with so many records falling thanks to the power of our 765cc three-cylinder. »

« It was an incredible season that we are very proud of », appreciates Triumph. " I would like to congratulate again Álex Márquez and the VDS team for their incredible championship victory, as well as the Flexbox HP40 team for finishing on top of the team rankings in 2019. It was also a joy for the fans to see how closely fought for second place was in the championship, with Brad Binder finally securing this position with just 2 laps remaining in the entire season! We would like to warmly thank all the teams and drivers for making their contribution to what has been such an exciting year. We are already looking forward to 2020! »

It will be recalled that due to the single engine regulations, the brand Triumph has succeeded in highlighting its performance against its competitors in the market which are KTM or even MV Agusta...
