Contrary to his usual, Miguel Oliveira, one of the two contenders for the world crown, was very present during testing and qualifying for this Thai Grand Prix.

However, if the Portuguese driver was not unworthy by concluding his race in 3rd position, it is good Francesco Bagnaia who, at the end of a perfect race, finally pulls the chestnuts out of the fire against his tough opponent in the world championship.

Starting from 6th place on the 2nd row of the starting grid, the Italian driver jumped when the red lights went out to gain a place and take advantage of the following straight to find himself in second position.

In the lead after the first round, Francesco Bagnaia would then battle with the two KTM officials during the first half of the race before managing to escape in a single rider to the finish line to clinch his 7th victory of the season.

The icing on the cake, as an ideal teammate Lucas Marini came back like a ball on the KTM duo in the second half of the race and managed to obtain the 2nd step of the podium on the last lap, increasing the lead by another 4 points. Francis Bagnaia on Miguel Oliveira at the world championship.

This now stands at 28 points with 4 events remaining.

Francis Bagnaia : “I'm really happy: I knew that in the first laps, with a new tire, I would have a little trouble, but I stayed calm and tried to be consistent. In these kinds of conditions, with high temperatures, I can be even more competitive, especially with worn tires. Miguel was very strong here and I started from the second row, but I could have a good race because after the first 8 or 10 laps I knew I could start to impose my pace. I was hoping to go to Japan with 25 points to manage, but Luca gave me a great gift today, passing Miguel on the last lap.”

Lucas Marini : “A really difficult race and a great finish. I managed the tires and the temperatures very well to take the advantage in the final laps. At first I lost a few positions, but I tried to be smart and not lose my mind. It was a great day for the whole team: congratulations to Pecco and Dennis. We must continue in this direction, trying to help Pecco as much as possible.”

Paul Grandson, team manager: “What can I say, just a perfect weekend! Our drivers in the first two positions, another very important result for Pecco and excellent teamwork which allows us to increase our lead in the classification over Oliveira. It was not an easy Sunday, but our men worked hard, they left nothing to chance and managed the race and the tires perfectly with these very high temperatures, especially in the final. We must continue in this direction, hold on and prepare for these three races in Asia and Australia.”
